Up to 95% of the Jewish community were murdered by the Nazis. There is no exact figure, but the death toll is estimated at up to 195,000 people. A particularly poignant memorial park is located in the small village of Paneriai just outside Vilnius. It commemorates a forest massacre of Jews and other enemies of the Nazi state.
